It’s Preteen Vaccine Week!

PRTVW 2 people standing

Preteen Vaccine Week (PVW) is February 7-13, and the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency urges parents to make sure their preteens are immunized against these serious diseases like HPV (Human papillomavirus), meningitis, flu and pertussis (whooping cough).

PVW is a part of Live Well San Diego, a countywide initiative to improve the health and well-being of our community. One strategy for Live Well San Diego is to Support Positive Choices. When people choose to get immunized against vaccine-preventable diseases, they build better health in their community, contributing to the Live Well San Diego vision of a Healthy, Safe and Thriving San Diego County.

Oral Health Providers can help promote the importance of the HPV vaccine…

  • HPV vaccine is cancer prevention. Protect your preteen today. Learn more: #PreteenVax
  • There’s a new cancer epidemic on the rise. It’s an aggressive throat and mouth cancer caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
  • Each year, in the U.S., about 9,000 people are diagnosed with cancers of the oropharynx that may be caused by HPV. Cancers of the oropharynx are about four times more common in men than women.
